AMBIGUOUS GENITALS PROJECTED IN THE STREETS
AMORPHOUS BODY PARTS PROJECTED ON CATHEDRAL, ROYAL PALACE, CONGRESS, MUSEUM AND COMMERCIAL CENTRE OF THE CITY
MULTI-PROTEST AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, GENDER BINARIES AND MACHISM, SURVEILLANCE AND CONSUMER SOCIETY
Jaime del Val, selfidentified as "pangender cyborg", artist and activist from the transdisciplinary group REVERSO, projects amorphous images of body parts (amongst which genitals) taken from surveillance cameras placed on his body, onto façades of emblematic buildings representing economic, political, cultural and social power structures.
The series of actions that is taking place in the streets of Madrid this summer is a multi-protest against homophobia and machistic, patriacal, male-dominant society, against surveillance and control, and against consumer society, and standardisation of bodies and subjects induced by global communication technologies in latecapitalism. It is both an artistic and technological experiment, and a new kind of queer, transgender and intersex political protest, which also denounces social hypocrisy around sex and demands a more public and open approach to it.
The first action was done in the commercial epicentre of the city, denouncing consumer culture; the second in front of the main entrance of the Modern Art Museum Reina Sofia, denouncing the way cultural institutions work at the service of power; the third was in front of the National Deputy Congress, to denounce the weakness of democracies that work at the service of markets, and requesting an Intersex Law, that allows to legally self-identify as intersexual or intergender, and not only as male or female; and the fourth one (in the pictures) was in front of the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace situated opposite it, denouncing the homophobia of the church and the way touristic icons work as superficial instruments of seduction of consumer culture.
Nudity in public space is permitted by law in Spain, so the artist is not infringing any law nor can be considered an exhibitionist from the point of view of the Spanish Penal Code, since according to its article nº 185 exhibitionism happens only when there is obscene sexual provocation to under age or mentally incapable people, and nudity cannot, under this light, be considered an offence. This, of course, changes in the case of other countries.

Anatomy is a tecno-political fiction: undoing anatomy is undoing the political destiny of the body.
ANTIBODIES_DISSOLUTION OF THE BODY POLITIC is a Metamedia Metaformance, a political, artistic and technological intervention/performance/action in the public space of the city by the group REVERSO.
JdV_REVERSO use surveillance cameras on the body to decompose its anatomy and gender, and dishabilitate mechanisms of social control, in a unique convergence of dance, performance, media arts, electroacoustics, architecture and space interventions. A metapolitical experiment in wearable technology, an exercise in the undoing of of surveillance.
A naked body covered with micro-surveillance cameras walks by the streets of the city, projecting fragments of the body through a projector placed in the chest. Images becomes unintelligible and amorphous through proximity and angle of the cameras placed on the skin. At the same time exposed and illegible, the hiper-vigilated body becomes uncontrollable: amorphous, post-anatomic, pangender, defying binaries and categories of sexuality and intimacy. It moves slowly in a series of minimalist microdances, microcoreographies of a fragmented and multiple body that defies all categorisation, as it appeals to the desiring look in all its diffuse and fragmentary potential. Its voice is processed life in a minicomputer, becoming a chorus of dissolving voices.
So does the group REVERSO denounce that we are all vigilated and subdued to multiple explicit and implicit norms that we tacitly accept. Subverting the same technologies that constitute the norms, the vigilated body rebels against mechanisms of control and against the normative and disciplinary scaffolding of market driven management of bodies.
It is the MUBP: MOBILE UNIT FOR BODY PRODUCTION, also called MUAP, MUGP or MUSP (MOBILE UNIT FOR ANTI-ANATOMY / GENDER / SEX PRODUCTION), a war-machine against the disciplinary social organism understood as power machine, the gender, sexuality and public-private binaries and the apparatus of affective production of bodies in latecapitalism.
